Synaptics, a big name in touchscreen technology, has announced their ClearPad 3000 and 1000 touch sensors, featuring a lot of great new gesture and multi-touch functions for manufacturers. While it won’t mean much to end-consumers until OEMs and ODMs pick these up, the tech demo is an impressive display of things to come to market down the line. If you thought two fingers doing stuff on the iPhone was a big deal, the ClearPad 3000 will be able to handle ten simultaneous touch inputs. While I doubt we’ll see people huddling around cellphones as if they were a Microsoft Surface, it does allow for some interesting gesture possibilities, like scrunching and rotating. The ClearPad 1000 is a little less robust, but should provide a cheaper alternative for manufacturers who don’t need anything quite so fancy. For more info, hit up Synaptics’ website, and if you’ve got the time, be sure to listen to our interview with these guys at CES specifically about multitouch.
