With the proliferation of the smartphones, guess we expected to see some traditional marketing and advertising agencies specializing in application promotion services. That said, VSC Consulting, a U.S. boutique PR firm, announced a new service division focusing exclusively on iPhone, Blackberry (NSDQ: RIMM), Android and other mobile application developers in need of mass market awareness.

The division, called ApplaunchPR, will “use sound creative programs to cut through the noise and raise visibility surrounding an application’s launch and distribution.” For the record, VSC is not new to the game, as they have handled well over a dozen mobile application launches since 2002, including the popular iPhone app – Virtual Zippo Lighter.

Commenting on the new service launch, VSC’s Vijay Chattha said: “The days of relying on carriers or major distributors for marketing are gone. The most successful apps are built by small teams who create highly interactive applications, but need major marketing and PR muscle to get recognized. We’ve seen the dramatic impact that the right marketing program can have on individual apps and it’s often cited as the difference between success and failure.”

We’ll see how this goes. In the meantime, there’s a dedicated website for those who want to know more about the service.
