UK: Vodafone NOT chasing T-Mobile!

Wow, this relationship is on and off more than your average celebrity couple! Yesterday things were looking to be heating up in the mergers and acquisitions space for UK Operators…

…. but according to Reuters today, Vodafone (NYSE: VOD) have said at their AGM that they are NOT chasing T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) for an acquisition. This is somewhat different than what we understood to be the situation the other day, after some comments from the Vodafone CEO set tongues wagging about whether a merger could be on the cards.

I personally wonder whether the 5 Operator battle that is currently going on in the UK is sustainable, especially given the current economic climate – and a merger seems like the natural path that will occur – my only question then is how many mergers there will be – both T-Mobile and 3 have been identified as potential targets in the last few months.
