A leaked version of Windows Mobile 6.5 build 2193 gives us a glimpse at the text-selection tool built into what will one day emerge from its development-cocoon as Windows Phone.

Not exactly a text "bubble," but you get the picture. Right?

If you’re wondering what this “Windows Phone” is all about, Microsoft recently revealed that it will soon ditch the Windows Mobile brand in favor of the Windows Phone brand. Going forward, Microsoft’s mobile OS will be known as Windows Phone. The move is supposed to make things a little less confusing for the consumer.

So, this “Windows Phone” will feature text-selection bubbles. The iPhone uses similar text bubbles because its capacitance-based touchscreen requires less accurate finger inputs. The use of text bubbles in the next version of Windows Mobile Phone could indicate that capacitance touchscreens are in Microsoft’s future. Or not, we don’t know. What we do know is that Microsoft recently posted a developer article that refers to the use of capacitance touchscreens as an option for Windows Phone – at the time, Microsoft was still using the “Windows Mobile 6.5″ name.
