Apple patches iPhone SMS text bug with iPhone OS 3.0.1 update

Apple has released iPhone OS 3.0.1 update that patches the iPhone SMS text message bug we reported on previously. And all it took to motivate Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) to issue the patch was for a couple security researchers to publicly announce the iPhone’s SMS bug. Find the iPhone OS 3.0.1 update in iTunes. Just connect your iPhone and update the sucker.
Jailbroken iPhones might want to wait it out until the iPhone Dev Team gives the “all clear.”

would i be right in thinking 3.0.1 is not be confused with 3.1 update promised a few weeks ago????
for some odd reason i got a major boost in cell phone reception from 1-2 bar to 3-5 bar 3g on my new 3gs! i don’t know if this is a fluke or just that maybe people who jailbroken their phones now have bricks that has freed up AT&T towers from their interference cause by their hacked phones…maybe apple is onto something by updating software to clear phones periodically of hacked software. i am loving all of my new found freedom of making calls anywhere in my home without worrying about losing quality or dropped calls, for now at least until the jailbroken community comes back online. i wish there was a way for apple and that community to join forces to offer all of the cool apps that seems to be so popular to make people to want to jailbreak in the first place! until then i will wait like a good little mac geek too scared to screw up his new toy. everyone else who has the guts enjoy i hope to be there soon where we can live in peace!
@Lowey:
Right, this is a different update
Cheers Shimmy, thanks
Not sure if this is just me never noticing it, but now when I use the app on my phone at the bottom of the page is a link to redeem a voucher. I have honestly never noticed that before, seems like it came with last nights update!?!?!?!
The reason your seeing better coverage is due to the better hardware in your 3gs and to ATT working hard to improve their network. Jailbroken phones have nothing to do with it at all. In reality, ATT’s network wasn’t ready to connect so many IPhone users to it’s 3G network so quickly and took a beating for it. From what I understand, ATT will be updating (Carrier Codes) their network here soon and we should see even better response times from our phones.
Now, let me add something to your jailbreak comments. A jailbroken phone has nothing to do nor does it affect a regular user. It’s like someone who tricks out their car. It’s really just for their enjoyment and self indulgment of the owner. Plus they get to tweak their car out more than stock factory and do cool and really neat stuff. The IPhone is an awesome little computer with a UNix operating system at it’s core. And direct access to that OS is great. I for one have a jailbroken 3Gs phone, and primarily use my phone for monitoring my networks as well as nice little added customizations that I have. I would really be unable to do alot of the neat Unix background stuff if I couldn’t jailbreak. I still use ATT, I still purchase from the APP’s store, but I like knowing that I can trick out my phone as I see fit and am not limited to only what Apple (or anyone else) thinks I should like. One thing you need to remember, there are users and then there are power users. Most folks just go with the flow and stick to what they know. And that is cool with me; but why should I have to stay put if I can do so much more and am not afraid to try it? Think about it, if people that tried something knew and pushed the envelop didn’t exist where would we be now? So in reality, it’s a win win situation for all. And Apple, as well as those who just go with the flow, need to respect that mind set. Don’t need to understand it, just respect it.
My phone’s data reception has been fine until recently. I’ve been on 2.2 ever since it came out without any problems until now. Could it be recent flood of new 3Gs subscribers? Would my reception improve if I update to 3.0.1?
