China Mobile launches OPhone Software Developer Network

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL) is betting its flavor of Android, so called OPhone, is set to be a hit. We’ve no doubt the world’s largest mobile operator in terms of number of subscribers have the power to move mountains and make handset makers re-think their strategies regarding which platform to choose for their products, but tackling developers is completely different beast. Take Symbian for instance – there are way, way more Symbian devices on the market than iPhones, but we have much more iPhone apps than those running on S60.

Anyway, to fight this problem, China Mobile has launched the OPhone developers’ site called OPhone Software Developer Network. From there, interested individuals and companies can grab all the documentation and tools they need, as well as discuss issues. As far as we know, among the first OPhone-ready devices will be one made by Lenovo, Philips may also be in the game, and probably many other companies. We’ll see how this goes…
