Nokia N97 accessory finally makes the device’s exterior match the age of the operating system inside

In a silly little marketing blitz started by Nokia’s ad men, they’ve created an accessory that looks like the Nokia Cityman 450, which was launched in 1987, to act as an anti theft device. While this accessory isn’t going to be on store shelves, ever, it is pretty sweet/sad to look at and helps the infamously slow news month of August move by at one notch above glacial. Take your Nokia N97, shove it inside, download an application to make your touch screen look like a 1987 keypad, and there you go, you’ve accomplished entertaining yourself for a few minutes by making your mobile phone look like something only stock brokers and drug dealers used in the late 80s. Speaking about the late 80s, 1987 was a very important year. It was when Psion launched their 16 bit operating system known as EPOC, which would eventually turn into a 32 bit version known as Symbian in 1998, and then finally be purchased by Nokia 10 years later in 2008. How about them apples? More photos over at All About Symbian.

    Stefan, I think you’re taking this all a bit too seriously… :-)

I think you’ve forgotten how to laugh.

    Maybe… ;-)

(This is some extra text because my comment was too short.)

Stefan, you forgot to mention the awesome packaging the Cityman came with. Those fonts alone are brilliant. It’s like Knight Rider & the A-Team in one go.

I bet they were actually just trying to come up with an external battery pack and then realized they’d have to disguise it somehow.

I thought it was funny. But seriously, the overly long article heading was too negative ;-) .
