T-Mobile USA recently posted their financial results for the second quarter of 2009, and they’re looking positive. The nation’s 4th largest wireless carrier has announced that Q2 2009 saw operating income (before depreciation and amortization) of $1.6 billion, an increase of 1% from the previous year’s Q2 and up 16% sequentially from Q1 2009. T-Mobile (NYSE: DT) USA has recently announced headlining smartphones like the Android-powered myTouch 3G with Google (NSDQ: GOOG), helping the carrier grow their smartphone portfolio in the fast-growing Android segment.
T-Mobile managed to increase their operating margins to 34%, up from 29% in the first quarter of 2009, thanks to reduced operating costs. Data ARPU (average revenue per user) increased 15% compared to last year’s Q2, with an 11% increase from the previous quarter. T-Mobile saw their customer-base increase by 325,000 new customer, compared to 415,000 net subscriber adds in Q1 2009 and 668,000 in Q2 2008. Customer churn (the ratio of new customers to customer defections) decreased to 2.2% compared to the Q1 quarter, but increased from 1.9% year-on-year.
T-Mobile’s upcoming smartphone releases and the T-Mobile myTouch 3G with Google should help boost the carrier’s ranks even more.
