Augmented Reality Twitter clients are coming

Twittaround is a promising iPhone application, which shows where Tweets are coming from in an augmented-reality “kind of way.” It works pretty simple – start the app, point your iPhone anywhere and see whether someone’s Tweeting in the neighborhood.
The application is still not in the AppStore and will probably be available once the iPhone OS 3.1 is released (as it contains some important APIs for AR apps).
On the hand, there’s Layar, a company which showcased its AR offering at this year’s Mobile 2.0 Europe in Barcelona. They are partnering with local Twitter search provider Tweetmondo to add some microblogging love to its client. From what I’ve seen, these guys are onto something, though at the moment, their application is available for Android handsets, only.
Anyway, I just wanted to cover these two interesting companies and show you how they’re “using” the Twitter phenomenon to make our reality augmented.
