Glory’s Last Shot: PGA Championship ‘09 App for iPhone

As I sit here, enjoying a rainy and relaxing Saturday… I’ve got ‘glory’s last shot’, golf’s PGA Championship on the tube. Out of curiosity, I grabbed my iPhone and popped open the App Store. The US Open and The Masters each have their own iPhone apps (both are free), and I was curious to see if the PGA had whipped-up anything of the sort.
Sure enough, the PGA does have an iPhone app, and it’s called PGA Championship 09 (appropriately enough). This official app is the first of its kind to make use of push notifications. You can use it to receive real-time alerts for 5 of your favorite players… Get notified when they begin their round, end their round, score a double bogey or worse, a birdie or eagle, and what happens at the conclusion of each hole. Alerts are easy to manage, turn on/off, or change. It’s all up to you.
You can also setup a custom leaderboard, view current news, round recaps, daily tee times, scorecards, and a heck of a lot more. If you want to get right into the PGA Championship over this breezy Minnesotan weekend, you may want to pick this one up.
The only downer is this is a paid app. At $1.99, this is also the first golf major app to require payment. Both the US Open and Masters apps are free… I’m curious to know how this one fares in comparison to the others (probably nowhere near as many downloads!).
You can pick up PGA Championship 2009 in the App Store for $1.99 (iTunes link).

I downloaded it and couldn’t believe how awesome it was!!
I hope the NFL uses does this one day!
