NPR has updated its iPhone application with a slew of new features. Developed in partnership between NPR Mobile and Bottle Rocket Apps, the app apparently packs more features than any other similar offering. Here are the more notable features:
- Allows users to listen to programs and read news at the same time.
- “News” section showcases six prime topics (U.S., World, Politics, Business, Science, Health), while dozens of other NPR.org topics are available in the “Programs” section.
- Quick access to 5-minute audio newscasts updated every hour.
- Customizable playlist – lets users select and organize as many stories as they want to hear. App will cache text and photos for offline use and will flag stories that have been listened to.
- Location awareness – for locating nearest NPR station using zip code or GPS.
Best of all, NPR promised even more for the future releases — including live news-event coverage, NPR Music live concerts, and other enhancements. AppStore link is here…

Actually, this isn’t an update, this is a brand new app, the first to be released by NPR. You’re probably thinking of one of the other public radio apps that are already out there, like Public Media Player.
