SouthernLINC adds super-rugged, super-ugly Motorola r765

SouthernLINC Wireless has a new device in its offering – the super, ultra rugged Motorola (NYSE: MOT) r765. The radio-inspired iDEN phone may be as hell, but it works in the noisiest of environments, which is usually one of the top requirements of the push-to-talk service users.
Aside from boasting military-grade ruggedness, the r765 also boasts a GPS receiver, and is Bluetooth enabled. Again it’s the services such as emergency group calling, isolated site operation, status messaging and multi-simultaneous talkgroup calling where Moto’s phone really shines.

The R765 is not super ugly, you want super ugly insert any flip phone from any maker on any network. Those stupid slide phones with the red keyboards… UGLY!
This is EXACTLY what a RADIO phone should look like.
Now if Sprexoost would just get off their high horse and allow the R765 v. the R765IS at half the output power. The network controls the signal output so no issues with over powered units.
I disagree. This radio is not ugly. Were it not for the money, I’d have one in a second. I’m tired of silly, prissy little flipper phones that resemble cosmetic products, or like the other poster said, sliders with red keyboards…UGLY. One must make up their mind whether they want a phone, or a calculator. I want a PHONE.
So it doesn’t take pictures or play mp3 files of today’s stupid-sounding dance aerobics music that tries to pass for Top40…who CARES ? The damn thing works !
I like the fact that I can connect a real shoulder mike to the 765 and not worry about tiny little wires. Or, I can use a Bluetooth. Either way, I’m covered.
I understand that Motorola’s only issuing 1800mAH Li-Ion packs with the 765… a step in the right direction. I’d prefer upwards of 3000-4000mAH, myself.
I already have an i580 with the extended battery, which is about as far as I want to go with a flip phone. But the 580 is nicely rugged for what it is. The r765 blows all other iDEN stuff away. Good job Motorola.
