Android fans following blindly?

Google (NSDQ: GOOG)’s Android OS is quickly becoming a serious player among mobile operating systems. With multiple Android smartphones now on market, the Google mobile OS enjoys the distinction of being the “ying” to the iPhone’s “yang.” But, according to Bnet, the Android OS doesn’t deserve the kind of following it has generated. They go so far as to say that “blind dogma” has helped push Android beyond its merit.
The article cites developers’ complaints that the Android platform is slow, the UI relatively poor, the mail client disappointing and the web browser not up to the standard set by the iPhone. Alex Kerr, founder of mobile app vendor Phone Thing Ltd., even posits that Android success thus far “stinks of religious dogma, as with the old PC/Mac/Linux wars…There’s way too much emotional opinion floating around, resting on blind dogma.”
Hey, at least Michael Arrington supports Android over the iPhone. I actually had the pleasure of speaking with Arrington at our recent Drive-Up Meet-Up, and he was more than happy to take time away from eating all our delicious Whole Foods sandwiches to explain how the Android smartphone in his pocket was better than the iPhone. Sure, there were downfalls to Android, but if Arrington believes it’s better, who are we to argue?

I’m sure you could also find a group of developers that think developing for Android is the best thing since sliced bread.
It all depends on what perspective you want to show.
Perhaps the article is valid feedback, but it could just as easily be a hit piece.
Yes android is a bit slugish but that is only because google hasnt put everything into it yet. It’s still growing and the possibilities are endless, plus it also relies on the shitty hardware that has been provided for it thus far. But this time next year im positive it will be on par with the iPhone OS and then the year after it will surpass it im sure. And i dont mean the current iPhone OS but whatever updates they make to it in the future aswell, before someone starts getting smart with me.

You could VERY easily replace “Android” with “iphone” from the title of this article, making it far more an accurate portrayal. What an unbelievably biased article from BNET.
Most people don’t get that android is not aiming at the iPhone and it’s not even a product like the iPhone is.
While the iPhone is designed to make money Android is designed to be the Apache Server or MySQL Database of the phone world.
To be used by any company in any way they may find it useful without any need to request permission from Google and without the need to communicate with any Google server (It can but it doesn’t need to).
Slow? On what hardware what version of Android ? Not intuitive? What interface? Hero sense ui? Webrowser/keyboard sucks ? Which one? Android or htc keyboard ? Default browser or steel?
As soon as an nVidia Tegra based android phone comes out, the “sluggish” side of “Android” will be history.
Iphone this Iphone that …….i am kinda tired of hearing about the iphone… there are several android phones coming out that should give the iphone a run for its money one being the sonyericsson “rachael” cant wait to see this one in action !!!!!
Religious dogma got the iPhone where it is today.
It’s the early takers that help the idea to grow.
Android is well positioned to surpass the iPhone in features, performance and perhaps in cool.
