AdMob acquires AdWhirl!

AdMob, the leading mobile ad network, is acquiring AdWhirl, iPhone-centric mobile advertising solutions provider, which works with multiple iPhone ad networks. The official line is that with the acquisition, AdMob will be able to offer iPhone application developers “a much needed open source mediation solution.” We, on the other hand, think that it’s best to make acquisitions in the time of recession, when prices are low, and in that sense we salute AdMob’s strategy for pulling this out.

The good thing, though, is that AdMob will maintain all of the AdWhirl’s functionality whether developers use AdMob or not.

Offering an open source solution will enable us to ensure advertisers and publishers a high quality experience with mobile advertising and publishing, and introduce an open, transparent choice into the market which has not existed to date.

Additional details will be known within next few weeks… And in case you’re wondering, financial details were not disclosed.
