samsung mobile applications Samsung Mobile Application Store Announced for September 14

The iPhone AppStore has sparked a slew of new mobile application stores from just about everyone in the mobile space. Samsung is no exception. The South Korean mobile phone maker had already entered the mobile app market with a web-based app store, and today they’ve announced that the handset-based Samsung Mobile Applications Store will go live on September 14th. The UK, France and Italy will be the first countries to get access to Samsung’s app store, with 30 countries (like Spain and Germany) set to follow.

The Samsung Mobile Application Store will be home to some 300 native applications on launch, sourced from developers like Gameloft, Electronic Arts and Handmark. By the end of 2009, Samsung expects to see 2,000 apps available in its store.

Customer can buy apps directly from their compatible Samsung handset through the Mobile Application Store’s billing system or choose to have purchases billed directly to their phone bill. The Samsung Omnia and Samsung Omnia HD I8910 will be among the first devices to support the Samsung Mobile Applications Store, with the Samsung Omnia II I8000 and OmniaLITE B7300 getting support later on.
