Canada’s Rogers Wireless to offer Motorola Android phone next year

Rogers (NYSE: RCI) Wireless is no stranger to Android — they already offer HTC’s Dream and Magic — and now, it seems, they plan to add a Motorola (NYSE: MOT)’s Android device, as well.
According to Financial Post, which quotes Rogers’ president Rob Bruce, the carrier will be adding a Moto-made Android smartphone at some point in 2010. Details are scarce, and we’re not sure whether he was talking about the newly unveiled CLIQ/DEXT or some other device. One thing is certain, though, now that they’ve cracked the Android nut, Motorola won’t stop on a single device, and that’s a good thing!
On that note, I’m hoping we’ll get a review unit of the Moto CLIQ to give it a try. That form-factor is perfect, and the new UI rocks!

A great follow up to this article would be to urge Mr. Bruce to explain why he is leaving his current Android usuers in the lurch by not allowing the version upgrades to the OS. If Rogers doesn’t support these upgrades, THIS customer will be going elsewhere after a decade of loyal service.
Hi Vic – This is Mary with Rogers. We evaluate all new updates that HTC makes available for our product and we will inform customers of upgrades as they become available. I do appreciate your feedback and will be sure to share that with the team. At Rogers, we are big fans of Android. We were the first to introduce Android-powered handsets to Canada and we will continue to lead in the smartphone category.
Stay tuned!
