Nokia launches MyDailyApp.com to promote apps in the Ovi Store

Nokia (NYSE: NOK) has a new blog/site called MyDailyApp.com, where the company’s employees are talking about a new app every business day (Monday through Friday). The idea is to scatter around the Ovi Store and present the best apps found. A dedicated Twitter account is also launched – @mydailyapp.
Now, here’s a problem. It’s nice to see Nokia going one step more than they need to, but honestly they shouldn’t be doing this. A site like MyDailyApp.com is something Nokia fans should do. Sure, there are quite a few websites out there presenting S60 apps, but that’s like nothing compared to the iPhone craze. Maybe we’ll see more people going all crazy for Maemo, hence Nokia will save its resources for something more useful. We’ll see…

Thanks for the post about MyDailyApp. Sorry you don’t seem to think we should be doing this site … Yes, we’re writing about apps in Ovi Store – and we will keep on doing so. But, we’re also trying to showcase the cool work of our mobile developer community – the folks who use forum.nokia.com everyday. Yes, we talk about the apps, but we also point out and talk about the developers behind those apps.
For the record, we’re not suggesting fans should post reviews/blogs of their own about apps in Ovi Store – we hope they do!
We would like to think of the MyDailyApp blog as a way to offer individuals a service. Specifically: ‘We’ll try it before YOU buy it.’ If you’re going to spend money on apps, wouldn’t it be nice to know if you are going to get your money’s worth? We’re doing the homework, and then providing guidance based on our experience with the apps we review.
We’d be happy to discuss further, if you’re interested in learning more about our blog.
Thanks again for letting your readers know about it.
