Uganda Telecom offering solar powered mobile phone

Uganda Telecom has launched ZTE’s solar powered phone called “Kasana” in Arua, the country’s district which is least connected to the national power grid.

This is an important device for the carrier, as only 10% of the country’s rural population has access to the power grid. In that sense, Uganda Telecom clearly sees this device as a potential game changer, as it will be able to offer its service in parts of the country where it wasn’t able to do so before. Now, the question is whether the people who don’t have access to electricity are willing to use a mobile phone?
