Just when we talked about Catalista, we’ve spotted another volunteering application for the iPhone. It’s called The Extraordinaries and it allows everyone to “micro-volunteer.” By that term the folks behind the app mean such actions as waiting for a movie to start, riding a bus, waiting in line; but also some serious work such as:
- Translate an NGO’s website into a foreign language
- Record locations of potholes for municipalities
- Identify birds for the Cornell Lab of Ornithology
- Tag images for the Smithsonian
- Transcribe ancient texts for ReCaptcha
- Fact check for reporters
Interested? The official application page in the AppStore has more information. Additionally, you could also check out a dedicated Extraordinaries channel on YouTube.
