The Hero is here! After waiting months to get my grubby mitts on HTC’s flagship Android smartphone, I found a Sprint (NYSE: S) HTC Hero sitting on my desk. Needless to say, I was excited to tear open the retail packaging and dive right in. But, I figured it would be a good idea to restrain myself for an official Sprint HTC Hero unboxing video.
The video you see below is a preview of the unreleased Sprint HTC Hero. The smartphone features a 3.2-inch capacitance touchscreen, 5-megapixel camera, GPS, WiFi, 3G data, microSD card slot and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Android OS 1.5 (Cupcake) runs the show, but HTC’s custom Sense UI helps add functionality and some visual pizazz to the Hero.
Also, notice that the Sprint HTC Hero lacks the protruding chin of the GSM HTC Hero. Whether you love or hate the Jay Leno look on the GSM variant, you’ll probably find the Sprint HTC Hero’s design as refined and tasteful. Personally, I’d like to see the “chin” make it Stateside.
The Sprint HTC Hero will be available on October 11 for $179.99 with new 2-year contract.

Did you notice an lag that some reviews are talking about? I have the Palm Pre and am really thinking about getting the Hero
“Take the screen protector off … oh the humanity!”
LOL, I remember when it was cool to never take off your screen protector. God those days sucked.
Great video! If I had a dollar for every time you said widgets, I’d be rich.
I seriously don’t understand how people like the GSM version (w/ chin) versus this.
marcus,
i have read that sprint’s hero will have the latest update to the rom that addresses all the lagginess from the original release. there are lots of vids showing that it being very fast.
i can’t wait…..
Why no headset? They should include a headset for those switching from the old style 2.5mm which of course won’t work in the new 3.5mm slot. Of course I understand the “make ‘em buy” mentality but honestly, it is enough to make me pass or for sure not buy my headset from HTC.
Got my HTC Hero yesterday at Best Buy and didnt even Pre order it. I traded in my Instinct HD for it. So at my best buy I was the first HD sold, first one returned then the first Hero out the door.
Its my first android phone and it blows the instinct out of the water in basically everything except for the camera, but I’m not buying a phone as my primary camera anyways.
There is no lag, it just transitions so smoothly, downloading apps is a breeze, setting up the phone is super easy and I’m not to tech savy.
The only I have to say is the keyboard is smaller on the Hero than the HD, but I like the feedback and word prompts on the hero, so in time I will adjust quickly. Also BB was not able to transfer my contacts over for some reason so I had to do it manually. I also like that you can link your facebook friends profiles to their contact. My wifes pre does this but its an all or nothing or at least thats the only way we could do it. This one you can take each friend and link it only if you want.
Overall I am very happy with the phone and looking forward to learning alot more about it.
Oh one more thing I did not get a Micro SD card adapter with mine. Did anyone else? Share your thoughts at http://www.HTC-Hero.com a dedicated site for HTC Hero. Take Care!
