In a move geared at prepping their network for HSPA+ Hutchison 3G Austria has hired Nokia Siemens Networks to modernize the network. Work will begin this fall, and is expected to run to completion in early 2010.
Berthold Thoma, CEO of Hutchison 3G Austria commented:
Mobile broadband is also one of the most pragmatic solutions to bridging the digital gap between cities and rural areas. For rural areas, mobile broadband coverage is simply less expensive and faster to deploy than “fiber to the home” solutions. We hope that with our nationwide coverage we will contribute significantly to this end.
Nokia (NYSE: NOK) Siemens Networks is of course handling all of the dirty work here, and will provide Hutchison with their powerful NetAct network management system as well.
