Street View Comes to Canada

It has been such a tease being able to use Street View in Google (NSDQ: GOOG) Maps for iPhone, Android, Windows Mobile and S60 in Canada for places all over the world, but nowhere close to home. Well, finally Google has launched Street view in Canada, covering Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Banff, Calgary, Kitchener-Waterloo, Toronto, Ottawa, Montréal, Quebec City and Halifax. Woo! As an Ottawa native I’m really excited for this service update from Google. If you haven’t had a chance to try it out in the browser-based maps, Street View lets you zoom down to 360-degree panoramic images taken right on the streets of certain cities by Google’s infamous fleet of cars mounted with special cameras (a few of which I’ve seen around Toronto and Ottawa over the last couple of months). The only difference with the mobile application, is that your view changes as you move the handset, since it can detect direction through the built-in magnetometer.
