As usual, I like covering smaller carriers, and on that note, we bring you this story which involves Cricket and their deal with Wal-mart which will sell the carrier’s products and services across 840 stores.

Here are the highlights:

  • Wal-mart will exclusively sell the Cricket Broadband $50 monthly service plan. Moreover, this will be the only mobile broadband offering in Walmart’s computer section!
  • The Cricket A600 modem will be available as a grab-and-go offering for $69.99 with no activation fee.
  • Wal-mart also offers Cricket’s new all-inclusive PAYGo plans, which offer a la carte rates, voicemail, call waiting, caller ID, and three-way calling all over Cricket’s 3G network. Two such plans will be available: $40/month – which includes unlimited talk, U.S. long distance, Cricket’s premium extended coverage, MMS, and international text messaging; and $45/month that adds unlimited mobile web and 411 directory assistance on top of the $40/month plan.
  • Three popular (but low-end) Cricket phones are available at Walmart stores – Cricket TXTM8 ($79.99), Cricket CAPTR ($49.99) and Samsung r211 ($19.99).

Finally, this latest news builds on top of Cricket’s earlier announcements to sell their services/products with other large chains — including Best Buy, Target and Dollar General.
