Yahoo to stop offering its Yahoo Go mobile app on January 12, 2010

Yahoo has decided to kill its Yahoo Go mobile application starting from January 12th of next year. Those who haven’t used the app should know it provides users with quick access to news, weather, search, and other content from Yahoo network.
According to the company’s Head of Global Marketing, Adam Taggart, with mobile browsers getting more powerful there’s not much point in developing stand-alone apps for pushing content users can access via mobile browser.
He went on to add: “These monolithic all-in-one app experiences were a great strategy for the time, and it gained millions of users, but we’ve evolved with the market. Everything we’ve done so far in 2009 is a fulfillment of that strategy. The gap between what’s available in the app and the browser is closing, and we’ve shifted resources to both the browser and focused-app strategy.”
For those of you who used Yahoo’s app the question is – are you going to miss it?

I won’t be sorry to see it go.
Now Yahoo Go! 1.0- that was a different matter.
It was a native Symbian app, and it synchronized Yahoo mail/calendar/contacts with the phone, and even had Messenger, with all the smileys and even some audibles!
That was changed to the present crappy form around June 2007.
Wish they’d bring that back.
