Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Priced at $860

Ow, did anyone else feel like their wallet just got kicked in the crotch? At a Swedish press event, Sony Ericsson (NYSE: SNE) revealed that their Android-powered X10 to be released in February will be costing 6,000 Swedish kroner (which works out to $US 860 at the current exchange rate). Even among high-end smartphones that’s pretty steep, and considering SE’s history with selling the xperia brand unlocked, odds are we won’t see X10 carrier-subsidized for awhile. We’ve seen the super-slick user interface built on top of Android, 8 megapixel camera, slim profile, 1 Ghz processor, and 4-inch display, but it is a very small niche that will shell out that kind of money for this device. Anyone out there unfazed by the pricetag?

“Hi, We’re Sony Erisson, we’re totally unaware of what the heck is happening with the world, thanks for your left arm and testicles in exchange for this X10.”
Ill do anything for a snapdragon! just hope it comes to the magenta!
I’ll take two!
I have used SOnyericsson’s for a long time,..since T68i,P800,P900,P910,S700i,…then Nokia for some time but never fell in love with it(Nokia).Know I use BB 8900 Curve good phone but its missing the GUI im looking for.But I do love the Email clients in the phone, facebook,IM’s also.
The problem i see with Sonyericsson is that Sony doesn’t do the thing its suppose to do,n that is the Multimedia(I mean SOny can use the PSP games n move it into a line up of games for there Handsets,Put nice clothe for there Operating Systems. n Ericsson worked on Hardware I guess. But know they dont even develop I suppose unlike Nokia where they develop n produce at the same Manufacturing,….
WIth HTC moving up with there Graphic User Interface,it will be hard for SE to buy those hearts(HTC fan lovers),..but with the X10 It may have a chance to play with 3GS .I know from the bottom of my heart that Sony has a Top Notch GUI design capability if they care to use there workers talents @ all.
I just hope they dont miss this up,….
n hope they stick to a platform like Android n keep on improving it n let developers work on it n develop there own games or programs. There is a gr8 chance that it will Crush other Rouch Screen Manufactures.I see a big Feature in Android(LINUX Karnel)….

Shouldn’t Stefan write these articles which contains price stuff, since he have been living in Finland and should know how devices get priced in Scandinavia?
One example of the many.
N97: 1000$ Scandinavia –> 699$ US
X10: 860$ Scandinavia –> 860$ US, wait a minute…
FFS…
As Paul mentions, the price mentioned in this article is incorrect.
As i commented on another blog… :
Please remember that in Sweden we often pay premium prices, there is no way to convert our swedish prices in kronor (Kr) straigth to US dollars (USD). From the start for example the N97 was 699 USD in the US, and in Sweden it cost 7000 kr at launch, which translates to 983 USD.
Paul and Niclas, thanks for giving us the local perspective; the Swedish market is definitely something folks should take into account before getting up in arms about the price point.
As for whether Stefan should be writing the scandinavian stuff, we’re in the process of figuring out internally if/how we should split up news geographically. With the time zone differences being what they are, it could mean stories get out a lot later if we wait for the dedicated editor to write up a post.
