Apple Unloads Both Barrels into Verizon’s Inability to do Data/Voice Simultaneously

By Simon Sage on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 8:36 AM PST In Apple, Marketing, Verizon

So, you might have noticed how Verizon (NYSE: VZ) commercials might have sort of, kind of, maybe been taking some potshots at the iPhone. As we all know, Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) can sling some mud with the best of them, and just launched these two ads that show just how darned handy it is to use voice and data simultaneously.

Son, you just got served. Actually, even though it’s fair game right now, simultaneous voice and data will be a moot points once LTE rolls around. It’s also maybe not such a smart move to be bashing on Verizon if Apple hopes to be using their network at some point, although the same could be said for VZW. One way or the other, Apple really shouldn’t be bragging about AT&T (NYSE: T)’s network, even with it’s data/voice capability. What do you guys think of the ads?

I was with Verizon from 1996 (started as airtouch) to 2008 when the iPhone 3g came out and I can tell you there network took years to get to where it is. AT&T are still building there network so I don’t know why people rag on them. Verizon took years to get there network and in the process got to big and the customer service took a backseat. I have had a few more dropped calls on AT&T but there customer service and Iphone make it worth it. It’s sad that it took the iPhone and AT&T to finally force Verizon in to getting some much needed better phones.

After trying Verizon’s Droid and finding 2 of the 4 uses I intended it pretty much unusable due to bugs and omissions, I seriously considered moving to AT&T for the Iphone. I questioned 7 or 8 AT&T users who said that they REALLY dislike AT&T and their service. One user described how his (and his wife’s) calls drop three times in the same spots on every commute while he drives on one of Seattle’s major freeways, and that he can’t understand why after more than three years AT&T hasn’t fixed the problem.

In my opinion AT&T has been propped up by the Iphone for years and, when another viable phone appears or the Iphone becomes available on another network, they are in for some serious trouble.

droid is crap. I tried it, it barely works and it’s buggy as hell. And you have to constantly “monitor” your processes to make sure too many aren’t running. Having a Droid is like a second job.

Data/voice simultaneity is certainly a useful feature, but multitasking apps is a much more useful feature in my experience. Given Apples shortcomings in this area I think they should just STFU.
