Telecom Italia has joined the race to become the first operator in Europe to sell LTE data services. In a recent test run performed in Turin, 14 LTE enabled cell towers built by Huawei were setup around town and the results were downright amazing. Each device connected to the network was able to get 140 megabits/second (17.5 megabytes/second) and handle 3 simultaneous voice/data connections. Telecom Italia didn’t say when they plan on launching their commercial LTE network, but they’re going to be competing with TeliaSonera who is attempting to make Sweden the first country in the world with LTE service.
