The Signal 49: Google Phone, Android Gaming, and BlackBerry iSkin Giveaway

Since Will is off enjoying delicious mountains of mashed potatoes, gravy and turkey this week, Stefan and I handle the week’s wireless news. There’s not too much going on, but it’s mostly Android related. Analysts dig up GPhone rumours once more, so we go over why it’s a terrible idea, and there’s also concern about Gameloft’s involvement with Android, and whether or not the iPhone is too big for developers to ignore. Stefan also gives us his take on the Nokia (NYSE: NOK) X6 that’s now shipping, which is ample opportunity to rip into Comes with Music a little more.

Man, shame on you guys! I’m listening to the signal right now, and am on the bit about Android and making purchases in the Android App Store… Have either of you even used a Android powered device for a long enough amount of time to make a purchase in the Android App store? I have a Google account and only had to set up my credit card information once with Google Checkout. I can easily buy an app with the click of *one* button. I’ve never been asked to enter my CC information again since. I love your site, listening to the Signal, and reading Stefan’s rants; but you guys (mostly Stefan) are really misinformed and obviously talking out of your butt(s) in this regard. Please get informed before you make false and totally incorrect statements about this stuff, especially when it’s your business and the topic of information! Still love you guys, but seriously!

Totally fair game, Mike. We still don’t have paid apps in the Android Market in Canada, so I deferred largely to Stefan about specifics. We are hiring an Android editor in the near future, hopefully he/she will be able to keep us better in line.
