The iPhone’s AppStore and the Android Market have been growing fast in the past several months. The two mobile application stores boasts tens of thousands of apps for their respective smartphone platforms, offering users everything from games to medical diagnosis tools. The webOS’s App Catalog, on the other hand, has been slow to catch up. Today, as we all celebrate the New Year, the App Catalog hits a major milestone. Palm’s growing app store is now home to 1,000 webOS apps!
The 1,000th webOS app to enter the App Catalog is Engadget’s webOS app. The app basically puts all of Engadget‘s content into a handy little app that you can browse at any time.
It should be noted, though, that the arrival of webOS app #1,000 only applies to official apps. There are a lot of “homebrew” (read: unofficial/jailbreak) apps available for the webOS, so Palm’s smartphone platform has unofficially been blessed with 1,000 apps for a while. Still, the 1,000th official app is a big deal for Palm. With Verizon rumored to be taking on the Palm Pre Plus and the Palm Pixi Plus this year, we’re looking forward to an exciting 2010 for Palm and its webOS!
