BlackBerry-Viper

You might remember SmartStart for iPhone, an app which let you pop the trunk, lock the doors, hit the panic alarm, and start your car remotely. Well, Viper is coming to BlackBerry in Q1 and will be showed it off at CES this week. The app itself will be free on App World, but the extensive hardware ($499 for the complete package) and subscription costs ($29.99/year) may deter buyers from what is basically a novelty. If there were some GPS tracking in there somewhere, it might be worth it, but even then, now that car manufacturers themselves are getting into mobile connectivity, third parties charging a premium will have a rocky ride. You can find more info on Viper Smartstart and their iPhone app over here.
