ALK Technologies announced at this year’s CES 2010 show in Las Vegas that its CoPilot® Live™ v8 Sat Nav app for smartphones has been downloaded by over 200,000 customers globally in its first six months since launch – that includes Android, iPhone, and WinMo Operating Systems!

CoPilot Live v8 has become one of the best selling turn-by-turn navigation apps for iPhone in many markets, the top grossing of all iPhone apps in 2009 in the UK and the number one paid app on Android Market. CoPilot Live v8 has also proved popular for Windows Phone customers who are able to purchase and download the application directly from ALK’s own online store.

“The app store distribution model has been transformational for us in many ways,” said Michael Kornhauser, Managing Director at ALK Technologies. “It has allowed us to more easily market our full-featured CoPilot Live navigation software directly to customers on a wider range of GPS-enabled smartphones across the leading mobile platforms. App stores are a cost-effective way for us to distribute software, allowing us to make GPS navigation more affordable than ever. We have also been able to take advantage of the automatic software update facility offered by the iPhone App Store and Android Market to deliver improvements and innovations quickly and effectively in response to customer feedback.”

I’ve used CoPilot on the iPhone, and it is currently my favourite Sat Nav app – and at £25.99, I don’t think you can beat the price/functionality mix on offer! If you want to grab it on iPhone you need the App store, for Android it’s (obviously) Android Market – and finally for Windows, go straight to the CoPilot website, here!

As a result he has a broad and deep knowledge in numerous areas of Mobile – from network operators to device vendors, to infrastructure and middleware vendors (not to mention content delivery) – and has worked for companies in all of these areas! He is based in the UK, a hotbed of activity for mobile, and recently became a father for the second time – as oppose to in his younger years when he was happy spend time tweaking all manner of mobile devices to 'nth' degree, he now looks for services and hardware that provide the most efficient, compact, and reliable improvements to his already manic life! It’s his opinion that Mobile solutions should be there to help to make your life better – if a particular solution (be it service or device) isn’t doing this, he believes you need to ask the very important question of why you continue to use it... His focus at IntoMobile is mainly on Mobile content, services, and infrastructure, particularly as regards the UK market – and with the occasional look at devices. I’m sure there’s been quite a lot of android returns for this because both their Central management software used to download maps to the device and the process to download maps directly to the device are completely broken and there’s no way to get the maps to the android device without having earlier versions of both Central and Copilot, which the require some manual trickery to copy the maps to the device. It’s enough for someone to demand a refund.
