The ongoing Rogers HTC Dream Saga continues. First, Rogers announced that the Dream would not receive any OS updates past Android 1.5. Then, in response to the overwhelming backlash, Rogers announced that Dream customers could upgrade to the HTC Magic at no charge… But of course a new 3-year contract would have to be signed (no surprise there!).

NOW, we have another twist to the story. Looks like the Rogers HTC Dream has been pulled off the shelves entirely. Both in-store and online. Why? Because of an urgent software fix that is needed for 911 emergency calls to be completed. If you’re on a Rogers Dream, you should have already received a message asking you to disable GPS location on the device to ensure 911 calls will complete.

Apparently HTC is rushing to pump out a fix for said issue. Look for it to hit the Dream sooner than later, I hope.

Important Note for Rogers HTC Dream users: To disable the GPS satellite select ‘Menu’, select ‘Settings’, select ‘Location’, and then uncheck ‘Enable GPS Satellite’. This should allow for emergency 911 calls to go through, should you need the service.
