Twitter has setup a new program to help those in Haiti. The new setup, put together by Twitter mobile lead Kevin Thau and the good folks at Digicel, allows Haitian citizens to tweet for free… Providing of course, that they’re on Digicel. Twitter co-founder Biz Stone commented in the official Twitter blog not so long ago:

To activate the service, mobile phone users in Haiti can text follow @oxfam to 40404. Accounts are created on the fly and any account can be followed this way.

So there you have it. Good on Twitter and Digicel for doing what they can to help. Previously Haitian citizens would be charged a fee each time they tweeted. Now, they can communicate with loved ones and friends for free. Twitter and Digicel FTW in Haiti!
