Protect your iPhone/iPod Touch with more secure alphanumeric passcode (as opposed to the default 4-digit passcode)

Ever wanted to protect your iPhone or iPod Touch with more than four numbers? You could do that for quite some time with a jailbroken app, but there’s also a solution for non-jailbroken devices, which is more legit and has been brought to us by the good folks of 9to5mac.com. They’ve built a profile from Apple’s corporate development kit that allows alphanumeric passcodes.

To set a new password, which can contain both numbers and letters, simply point Safari to 9to5mac.com/9to5mac.mobileconfig and from there you can pick the new password. To make things even more secure, you won’t be able to use numbers in a consecutive order — i.e. intomobile1234 won’t work, whereas intomobile3124 will do just fine. Afterwards, if you ever want to remove this feature, you can do that from Settings -> General -> Profiles -> 9to5mac.

It’s that easy and it adds additional security on your iDevice, though I’m sure everyone needs that – I know I don’t. ;)

Finally, in case you want to make your own profile (and not use the one made by 9to5mac), iClarified got you covered. They prepared a do-it-yourself tutorial how to make that happen.

Please note that IntoMobile is not responsible for any problems you may have with forgetting your password. We just wanted to share a tip…
