Are you tired of having to remember what your friends look like? Well, The Astonishing Tribe‘s Recognizr app will enable Android phones to recognize your friends’ faces and associate them with online services like Skype, YouTube, Facebook, and more.

In addition to the aforementioned online services, the app will also associate the face with profile pictures in your contact lists. It’s still early in the app’s life cycle but it appears the program will only recognize people if they use the app too. This is kind of a bummer because it limits the usefulness, but we may be asking too much for complete facial-recognition on the go without caveats.

Like Layar and Yelp for the iPhone, Recognizr is part of an exciting trend of augmented reality apps on smartphones. This category is gearing up to be one of the most innovative over the next few years. Check out the Recognizr demo video below and look for the app to hit the Android Market in the next few months.
