Hootsuite‘s Twitter client is finding its way to Android handsets, in both free “Lite” and premium versions. Anyone who has taken their tweeting remotely seriously will have at least heard of HootSuite – its web interface allows you to keep close tabs on (and post updates to) multiple social networks and accounts in a clean, friendly, tabbed layout.

The main difference between HootSuite and HootSuite Lite on Android, is that, like the iPhone app, you can only monitor up to three accounts, and you don’t get access to metrics.  All of the other features, like tweeting, checking lists of who you follow, saved searches of favourite topics, sharing photos, shortening web site URLs for easy sharing, and scheduled tweets are available in the free version, and make HootSuite a twitter client to be reckoned with. As an added bonus, if you’re already using the HootSuite web client, all of your tabs and settings should transfer over seamlessly.

Although Twidroid still has a strong hold as the leading Android twitter app, Seesmic has been making solid progress on the platform, and it looks like they’ll be butting heads directly with HootSuite. Now, maybe one of our two new Android officionados can weigh in with the finer differences, but it seems to me like the scheduled tweets and the URL shortening are some of the key features that would make one choose HootSuite over the alternatives. What are you Android guys packing now to get your tweet on?

For a closer look at the app, visit their landing page, scope out this adorable video, scan or click that QR code with your Android device to see HootSuite in the Market. HootSuite is already available for the iPhone, if you’re into that kind of thing. The iPhone version was actually just updated to include Facebook integration and landscape orientation support.
