Palm Pre Overclocked to 800 Mhz on webOS 1.3.5.1

For those Palm Pre owners who want webOS blazing fast, even at the risk of bricking your phone, a homebrew patch has been developed which tricks the Palm Pre’s processor to run at 800 Mhz. As you can see from this video, it’s pretty danged snappy – it handles 16 cards open at once without any problems whatsover. Supposedly the battery life isn’t that badly effected, either.

The installation instructions (linked blow at Precentral) are crazy complicated, so don’t take the plunge unless you’re an advanced webOS user or don’t mind losing your Palm Pre in the process. Just remember not to not to try this on an OS 1.4 device, or it will most definitely be permafried. The Pre’s processor runs at 600 Mhz generally, so you can expect it to heat up more quickly at 800 Mhz (especially if running 3D games or something equally intensive),  or, it could, y’know, explode, but this is all in the name of science. You’d explode for science, wouldn’t you?
