Orkut hits Android

You probably don’t care about Orkut unless you’re in Brazil, but those who do use Google’s social networking service will be happy to know it is now available as an application for Android phones.

It has the features you’d expect from a social-networking app: you can upload phone photos to Orkut, sync your phonebook with your Orkut information, and update your status message. One cool thing is the ability to add a list of friends as a live folder on the home screen – this will let you look through your friends list even without a data connection. While I won’t be switching from Facebook any time soon, it looks like a solid mobile version of the online service. The app will only be available for Android handsets rocking 1.6 and above.
