Samsung Galaxy S Announced – Android 2.1, 4″ WVGA Screen, 1 Ghz Processor

The Samsung Galaxy S (GT-I9000) has been announced at CTIA, rocking an impressive 4″ WVGA touch display, Android 2.1, 5 megapixel camera and a 1 Ghz processor. The crux of the Galaxy S revolves around a home screen called Smart Life, which will provide a user-defined daily briefing with pertinent data (news, weather, meetings, maps, etc.).

Layar has been preloaded for augmented reality goodness, and Swype, for those who are looking for a new way to type on a touchscreen. To top it all off, the Galaxy S has DLNA support, so it can communicate with a variety of home entertainment electronics. The specs sound solid, and it’s hard to argue with Android 2.1, but I’m really curious to see some video from our guys at CTIA. This whole “Smart Life” thing merits some more explanation. Stay tuned!

If you’re already sold, markets worldwide, including North America and Europe, will have the Galaxy S “soon”.

Full specs after the jump!
