I guess we all agree it’s a good practice to keep track of your expenses. There are quite a few mobile apps that allow you to do just that, but there is one problem all of them have – what happens when you switch phones or even platforms? The data from you previous phone is pretty much lost or at least unusable.

Enter Toshl, a new mobile application/service combo, developed by the Slovenia-based ThirdFrameStudios. It’s basically a web service with a mobile client, which at the moment is available for Android and Maemo smartphone (Nokia N900), with iPhone version in works as we speak.

That’s the way such services should work. All your data is stored both locally and “in the cloud,” syncing either all the time or on demand. This way, the data stays intact and you can freely switch platforms — as long as they are supported by the service provider.

I’ve checked out the web version of Toshl and I like it. It’s easy to use and full of charts, illustrating how much you spend and what occasions (as tagged by you). You can export the data to Excel, PDF and even Google Docs, and there are also automated e-mail reports.

Finally, the Pro version is made for those who want even more – for $19.95 per year it offers advanced graphs, export to additional formats, search, adding and editing expenses online and more.

Before you visit Toshl’s website, make sure to check out how their mobile clients work on Maemo and Android.
