Randall-Reilly, the business media and information company focused on trucking and construction, is joining what seems as unstoppable mobile coupons wave. The company is launching Truck Stop Coupons, an iPhone app for truckers and other motorists that allows them to “clip, print and share coupons from more than 5,000 truck stops across America.”

Hold on for a second. Clip? Print? Those are not the real mobile coupons, right? To be fair, I’m not completely sure, but that’s what the official press release says.

Anyway, the free application is developed in conjunction with Salebug.com and Promiles, showing users coupons within a 50-mile radius of the phone. Of course, you can also get detailed route and turn-by-turn driving directions to any of the 5,000 truck stops in the database.

Pardon my ignorance, but I simply don’t see truckers owning iPhones and even more using them for couponing. Am I completely wrong, living in the past or what?

And before I let you go, you should know that Truck Stop Coupons will be released for Android and BlackBerry smartphones in the near future.

Yes, we do have iPhones, blackberrie, and others and use them all the time.

We also have and use wireless laptops and gps for driving.

This app fits right in with driving and could be a big help as we also do not make all that much money doing what we do… bringing damn near everything you buy to the stores for you.

I’ll be waiting for the android app. Just bought the backflip and a great truck stop guide would help us out a lot. Maybe hook it up with a goggle maps so we could punch up our routing and have all the truck stops and maybe some walmarts/targets with avlb truck parking. There are some more info u can put on it also. Ie truck stop size, scales, types of eatting, and maybe updated fuel prices. Thanks for taking the time to read this.

    Eddie,
Thanks for all the feedback. We currently have a feature in our app that will let you search for a particular truck stop or find all the truck stop nearby you. Further, you could also find the directions to the truck stop from your current location. We use google maps for the routing. Additionally, we are working on some of the enhancements and will be launching in future. Infact, we will be launching our app on other mobile platforms such as blackberry and andriod.

    Thanks for your comments.

appreciate the comment. This app was released with the complete understanding of what a truck driver faces everyday. Use this app as a truck stop locator. As soon as you open the app it pulls all truck stops within a 50 mile radius of your phone. You can also search for truck stops—even though this search engine is not as robust as our web site, truckstopguide.com, yet it is adequate. If you see a location which you are interested just tap the 'MAP" button and the truck stop is positioned on the map by a push pin. If you have used the iPhone much you know that from this point you can tap the push pin for the actual address of the truck stop and tap the arrow to the right of the address for the route to the truck stop from your phone. Tap the turned up page at the bottom right of the screen and tap "LIST" for turn by turn driving directions.

In relation to coupons this app is a tool to use for conveince.
If you jump to TruckStopCoupons.com you can see the actual coupons offered by each brand and can print these coupons if you have a printer. You can also use truckstopguide.com to find any truck stop in the country by interstate, state, chain brand, within a radius of any location in the country and on the actual route which you are running or plan to run. If the truck stop has "daily specials" to the right of its listing then just click that wording and all the specials available at that specific loaction will be presented to you. You can print any special you would like or you could actually click the "share " button and email the same offer to as many of your friends as you would like.
With this iPhone app we are primarily focused on providing a tool that can push the coupon offers to drivers which use smart phones.
Look for MANY updates to this app. This is designed for you the trucker and not for some computer geek to comprehend.
    Also it is FREE.

    Eddie,
Go to truckstopguide.com and you will find everything you need in locating truck stops, ammenities, specials that day, scales, etc… we have over 50 different ammenities that are available for the truck stop to list..
This is the search engine for TruckStopCoupons.com.
use both these sites until the app is available for your android.

“Am I completely wrong, living in the past or what?”

Yes, and yes, to the first two. As for the “or what?”…

Speaking for myself and my fellow trucker friends, we use all of the technology available to us to make our jobs easier. Some of it is not necessary, some of it is. I’m not sure how far removed from reality one would need to be to think otherwise of a trucker in 2010. A computer with an Internet connection is necessary for me to set up load alerts, search for loads, scan in paperwork after delivery, and many other facets of my everyday routine. My iPhone and my ipad will handle most of those tasks, freeing me from firing up my netbook until I need to scan or print something. Google maps on my iPhone (and to an even greater degree on my iPad) is an irreplaceable tool. Tomtom will get me there, but google maps will allow me to know what “there” looks like from a map view, an overhead satellite photo view, or a navigable street view before I ever get close to being there. There are several apps that I use routinely to make things easier in my business. I guess I shouldn’t even mention any of the fun reasons for owning an iPhone… Playing Scrabble with friends halfway across the country, Facebook, etc. That might be so far removed from your preconceived notion of a “truck driver” that something might short circuit in your over-educated brain. In the interest of your continuing contribution to the literary world, I won’t even go there.

I could go on. I would only be giving more details of what I thought were common sense reasons of why many truckers would obviously have an iPhone or some lesser equivalent. If you don’t “get it” by now though, then my going on would probably not get you any closer.
