Britain has a problem with their prison system. They don’t any issues keeping inmates locked in their tiny little cells, and giving them plenty of time to think about all the naughty things they’ve done. They’ve got issues with mobile phones being sneaked into prison facilities, which are then used to coordinate criminal acts outside prison walls.

How bad is the problem? Between February 2009 and January 2010 there were 4,461 mobile phones and 4,325 SIM cards confiscated at prisons in Wales and England. That number is 400% higher than what it was 3 years prior. “We believe that, nationally, there is one phone, charger and SIM card for every ten prisoners, which is ridiculous” said Prison Officers Association spokesman Glyn Travis. In Ireland that ratio increases to two phones for every 3 inmates at some jails.

What’s a jail to do? Well there are anal cavity searches, which are neither fun to administer, nor receive, and there are x-ray machines, but they’re expensive, so why not just train a dog?

Here’s Murphy, a springer spaniel who can successfully fine a mobile phone whether it’s in your pocket, stuck up your ass, or wrapped in plastic and hidden between mattresses:
