China Mobile will be adding a new low-end Samsung phone to its offering. The device, marked as the Samsung E1220, won’t impress anyone with its features, but it’s not meant to do it, anyway. The entry-level handset comes with a 1.8-inch color screen, WAP browser, 800mAh battery and some neat features such as call/SMS blacklist, fake call, SOS and mobile tracking.
Pricing is unknown at the moment, but we’re thinking the world’s largest mobile operator by the number of subscribers won’t ask more than $30 for an unlocked phone. Even more, it may end up offering it for couple dollars on some two-year plan.
Either way, getting a low-end device in China Mobile’s portfolio is a huge win for Samsung. Sure, the E1220 brings ridiculously low profits, but we’ve no doubts it will sell like hot cupcakes on a cold winter day, helping raise brand awareness for the Korean company. Of course, we also expect to see some higher-end Samsung models in China Mobile’s offering, but that’s another story…
