I totally don't get the point of jamming the sensor with 8 mp when the image quality is this mottled, noisy, and has such poor resolution–my 7 year old 4 mp canon elph takes much better images.

Agreed, not to mention the severe fringing at the high-contrast (high frequency) edges.
Just shows how 8MP bragging can get you shit-assed real-world performance.
Give me a DECENT 2MP cam, toss out the other 6MP, and then let's talk.
BTW, the biased reviews are tiring. Seems like the reviews are all mini-commercials,,, Hardly neutral.
