With Apple slated to debut the next-generation iPhone 4 / 4G/ HD at the WWDC 2010 conference tomorrow, there’s no doubt that iPhone hopefuls around the world are hoping that they’ll be able to jailbreak and unlock the new phone to use with any GSM carrier they choose. Today, we’re happy to say that the iPhone hacking gurus on the iPhone Dev Team will most definitely have a jailbreak and “carrier unlock” solution available for both the iPhone 3.1.3 OS and the upcoming iPhone 4.0 OS!
The Dev Team’s tank-top wearing MuscleNerd confirmed through a Twitter post today that:
… with both 4.0 & iPhoneHD coming out this month, so too will the 3.1.3/4.0 carrier unlocks 🙂
In that less-than-140-character post, the Dev Team has essentially yelled from the proverbial mountain tops that the current generation iPhone and the new iPhone will be able to use a SIM card from any GSM carrier in the world – as long as the iPhone is jailbroken and unlocked, of course. If you’re in the US, for example, a “carrier unlock” will allow any Apple smartphone to work in Europe – just pop in an appropriate SIM card and you’re good to go!
That’s all we have for now, but we thought all you iPhone fans out there would appreciate the update. Make sure to keep checking back on the IntoMobile frontpage for live coverage of the Apple WWDC event tomorrow!
