According to the latest report from In-Stat, 4G technology deployments and subscriptions will begin to take root this year, but only in North America and Western Europe, while the rest of the world won’t begin to embrace it in any significant way until 2012. Most of the world is still migrating towards 3G WCDMA and HSPA technology.
Here are the key findings from In-Stat’s report:
- WDCMA, HSPA/HSPA+ subscriptions will increase by 30% from 2010 to 2014.
- 11 LTE contracts have been granted in the first quarter of this year.
- In 2010, CDMA-related technologies will account for 566 million global subscriptions.
- By 2014 Western Europe’s 3G subscriptions will reach 540 Million, all WCDMA Technology.
One thing I don’t get from In-Stat’s numbers is – where is Japan. I expect them to lead the 4G front. Most of their carriers announced support for LTE and I’m guessing virtually every major operator in the Land of the rising Sun will be switching to 4G within 2 years. Or I’m just too optimistic…
Anyway, you can get details about In-Stat’s report from their website.
