The UK is set to get an upgraded version of the HTC Desire sometime in October called the Ace, according to retailer SuperEtrader. Though there aren’t any pictures of the phone, we’ve got a handful of specs to work with:

  • 4.3 inch WVGA Touch Screen
  • 8 Mega Pixel Camera
  • 1 GHZ Qualcomm Processor
  • Android 2.2 OS
  • HD 720p Video Capture
  • Xvid Video Playback
  • SRS Surround Sound
  • Automatic Face Tracking
  • Adobe Flash 10 Support
  • 4GB Internal Memory (up to 32GB)
  • E-book Reader Feature
  • Uni-Body Aluminium Design

The obvious improvements over the original HTC Desire are the upgraded camera (5 megapixel camera versus 8), bigger screen (3.7 inches versus 4.3, though it’s the same resolution),  and HD video recording (although that can be ported onto the Desire along with Android 2.2, which should be pushed out on the 23rd.). The unibody design sounds interesting, and would follow closely in the footsteps of the HTC Legend.  While the HTC Ace would likely send the European Desire into early retirement, I wonder if or when we’ll see it land in North America. Right now, the Desire is still trying hard to get released on U.S. Cellular and Telus, so it might be some time before it’s due for an upgrade.
