CNN is bringing its news app to the rest of the world, outside of the U.S. Designed NOT to be “yet another news app,” but much more – CNN for iPhone offers personalization features, access to iReport (CNN’s user-generated news community), ability to share favorite stories, photos and videos with friends and much more.
Some of the cool features I find interesting include:
- Ability to “follow” a story or topic – as CNN publishes new stories and developments related to topics designated by the user, the app will automatically alert the user by pushing a notification to the device.
- Access to the user-generated content from iReport. You can also browse iReport’s latest “assignments,” asking the community to weigh in on various news stories.
- Ability to browse news by region and category – i.e. Top Stories, U.S., Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, Middle East, Business, Sport, Entertainment, Tech and Travel.
- Each story features bulleted highlights above the full article, making it easy to scan the news items – very cool for on-the-go users.
In addition, there is the ability to save stories for later reading (even while offline); share stuff via email, Twitter and Facebook; tons of videos to watch; and so on.
