We’ve already talked about Raytheon’s plans to embrace the iPhone (and Android for that matter). Now the US defence firm unveiled Patriot Crew Drill, a multiple-choice game designed as a “refresher tool” for missile troops.
As expected, you won’t be able to download this game from the AppStore. It’s not intended for Average Joe to play with, but for Patriot troops, assigned to other duties, to speed up on the working and mechanics of the system.
Apparently, Raytheon has developed this app as a result of the U.S. military manpower demands, resulted from the conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. “As a result, these soldiers tend to get rusty as their focus is elsewhere. This app will help refresh those skills,” the firm’s Roopa Bhide told to BBC News. Soldiers are typically sent out to Afghanistan and Iraq for tours lasting one year.
Patriot Crew Drill runs a soldier through the different steps they must go through to assemble and set up the Patriot anti-missile system. In each step, a soldier is presented with three multiple-choice questions to answer. Successful answer moves him or her onto the next step, while failing gets them a dressing down from the virtual Staff Sergeant…
As I said, there is no iTunes download link. 😉
