Android 2.2 (Froyo) Graces HTC HD2 Again, Makes Phone More Worthwhile

htc-hd2-android-2-2-froyo

So you bought an HTC HD2 from T-Mobile and went home happily with that big ol’ honkin screen. Then you spent a few hours with Windows Mobile 6.5 and cried your eyes out. 30 days passed and, for one reason or another, you didn’t return it or exchange it for another device. Fear not: Android 2.2 or Froyo has just been ported to the device all over again (this time with GPS and video recording amongst other things in full working order) making it just as nice as the Droid X or HTC EVO 4G. Maybe.

Everything seems to be in good working order if the video below is to be trusted. GPS, Android Market and video recording are all working just fine, and general navigation and overal Android-ness seem to be intact. If you’re looking to free yourself from that burden we know as Windows Mobile, check out the link below the video to get Android onto your handset yourself. But beware, IntoMobile can be in no way responsible if you brick your phone. Enjoy!

For those of you who have not yet received the FroYo update – you can still watch Flash videos on your android device by downloading Skyfire Mobile Browser.

  • LovemyHTC

It works! I've got the HTC HD2 ported with Froyo 2.2. Too groovey!

    • Ankur

      Could you share:
      a) What H SPL you’re using,
      b) What Radio version you have
      c) What ROM you’ve using?

I’m not much of a techie wiz but have read up alot to get my head around these things. Have managed to load up the HSPL.. yet to flash Radio and ROM; however, have heard that many ROMs do not support Video recording and 3G, among other things.

      Would appreciate any tips. Cheers.

For those trying to upgrade to Froyo 2.2 DONT!!! if you use GPS. Because 2.2 fails to get a GPS lock, maps and navigation work.. but your location is way out or dispears.

  • Omar

  • LoveMyHTC

Its the shubcraft build. All you do is download to your card, find the android folder, click clrcad then haret. Presto! No other builds, put right on stock htc hd2 tmobile. Try it, you’ll like it.

    • Abdul Mohammed

    • Caroline

you just have to go back to your file explorer and rerun the whole thig. if you want android to keep working you can’t turn it off. you’ll have to rerun the program every time you turn in back on

  • Klaw

Hey guys I have extracted all of the files for the froyo 2.2 software onto my sd card for my hd2 but everytime i try to boot it up it starts up but it always says: “failed” “unable to find rootfs file, You need to unzip the rootfs file” what do i do? Thanks anyones help would be greatly appreciated.

    • JOhn

You have to make an Android folder on your sd card and put the files in there.

      • Jsulse95

but it clearly stated that you put the files in the root of the sd card.
but when you start android for the first time it makes the new folder “android”
so your basically stating that you put all the”cldcad and haret files like that in the android folder?

  • shabs

unzip the files to the root of your sd card. meaning that it should be directly onto the main part of your sd, not within a folder of your sd card. once you have unzipped all the necessary files onto your card, reboot your phone. on your phone, run file explorer and click on the android folder and run clrad.exe (this is so your android has sound, nothing will show up) then click haret.exe. the first time around will take longer because its creating your database. ive had mine for a month now and everytime i need to load android, it takes less than a min.

for the robotic voice, you need to downgrade your phone to the stock rom that it came with (if you updated your windows rom in the first place through tmobile). this will fix the robotic issue. sorry i do not recall the websites but just google it and youll def run across it. good luck.

    Hi Marc,
I am running Android 2.2 on my HTC HD2 on my SD CARD and once my HD2 hang I’ve lost the folders and tab’s layout. (Just in case you can’t get me: every time it reboot, it’ll restall its original layouts in my home tabs and the other 6 pages)

My Question: How can I retain what I organized my current layout every once it hangs/reboots?

    Thanks a lot

I have android froyo nand installed on my t-mobile HD2, i selected CleanDROID ROM v1.03. Everything works. I mean everything. No Issues!!!, just follow the directions to the T. Go over to XDA-develovers for everything you need. The HD2 was meant to be an android phone. I love windows mobile but android is much better.

  • Floyd358

I you want android to work correctly, you have to dump windows.

  • Disciple4life1998

i want to get rid of the stock windows on my hd2. how can i wipe the phone and load android stock so that only android in all of its glory runs on the hd2, with all the worrect files including sounds like ring tones and such?

    • Floydsanders

Go over to XDA-Developers and follow the instructions for Android nand on the hd2. follow the directions carefuly or you may brick your phone. I put android on my wife’s phone also. just watch the video and read the instructions. Enjoy your phone.

  • Floyd358

like I said I installed CleanDROID ROM v1.03, ( upgraded to v1.30. everything works fine. Dumped windows and installed Android. EVERYTHING WORKS….

  • Ladyrizzo07

So is it possible to run android and make phone calls from your HTC HD2?

  • Floyd358

Android is a phone os, you can make calls and do a whole lot more. Much more than you can do with windows mobile. My HD2 is a whole new and better phone with android 2.2 on it. I can do things with it that just can’t be done with windows. The android market is incredible. Many apps that you just install on the fly, no pc hookup needed. Just install an android nand and forget windows mobile. I suggest CleanDroid ROM V1.40
